Last updated: December 19, 2016

Mumbai, India (BBN) - Where some people glum about the short days and long nights, others enjoy winter as the best season of the year.
But due to our countless bad habits in the cold months, we can ruin the cheerful moments of the wintry weather, reports the Times of India.
Here we bring to you some of the winter mistakes that are responsible for causing a runny nose:
DRESSING INCORRECTLY DURING WINTERS
Remember, you have to be extra cautious of what you are wearing in winters.
Keeping yourself warm with correct choice of clothes is important.
If you are not warm enough, you may get hypothermia, a condition when your body temperature dips causing shivering, cold and fever.
LEAVING CURTAINS CLOSED ON SUNNY DAYS
Whether you are in your office or relaxing at home, if the day is bright, then open the curtains and blinds. This will not only keep the area warm but will keep your body cozy.
TAKING SHOWER EVERYDAY
Apart from leaving your skin dry, taking shower everyday in winters can kill good bacteria that protect against viruses.
NO EXERCISE
We often get lazy during the cold days. But we forget that a workout is important to boost our immunity.
A fifteen-minute walk is also enough as it makes your body strong and ready to fight against cold viruses.
WINTER DEHYDRATION
In cold weather, our body’s response to thirst isn't as active as summers.
Do not neglect the fact that no matter what time of the year it is, your body needs a required amount of water to keep it healthy.
Proper dehydration will also increase the urine production thus eliminating unwanted viruses.
NOT EATING SEASONAL FRUITS
The seasonal fruits and vegetables come for a reason. Instead of eating frozen fruits, eat fresh and leafy vegetables available in winter.
You may notice that all type of citrus fruits like lemons, oranges, grapefruit, kiwi etc. comes in winter which fixes your citrus consumption.
SKIPPING OUT ON WARM DRINKS
Opt for warm drinks that will not only keep your body warm but also help in boosting immunity.
One of the best examples of warm drinks is saffron milk. It keeps the immune system strong.
Also avoid loading yourself with lots of caffeine as it can lead to dehydration.
