Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangla Lion Communication Limited, a wireless broadband access operator, will provide `friendly test use' free internet service on an experimental basis to 15 areas of the city by September 15 through WiMax.
The areas include Uttara, Gulshan, Nakhalpara, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Shyamoli, Elephant Road and Motijheel. The people of these areas will get free internet service for one month.
These were informed at a meeting between officials of the Bangla Lion and Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Tuesday, a press statement said.
According to the statement, 15 days after the introduction of free internet service about 10,000 people of these areas will be brought under the internet facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, BTRC Chairman Brig Gen (retd) Zia Ahmed called upon the Bangla Lion authorities to provide internet service to the people at a cost-effective price.
Assuring allout cooperation, the BTRC chairman hoped that the Bangla Lion will play an important role in the country's socio-economic development by reaching the modern telecom facilities to the doorsteps of the people.
Chairman of Bangla Lion Major (retd) Abdul Mannan said his company is pledge-bound to reach WiMax service to the remote areas of the country quickly at a low cost.
He hoped that all districts of the country would be brought under WiMax service by 2010.
