World Bank president now in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim arrived in the capital Dhaka Sunday afternoon to see firsthand the progress Bangladesh has made in transitioning to a lower-middle income country, despite development challenges.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith received him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city while Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and Bangladesh's Alternative Executive Director to World Bank headquarters Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan were present.
World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh Qimiao Fan and other officials were also present.
During the two-day visit, Kim will join a public event to mark the End Poverty Day and celebrate Bangladesh's achievements in lifting more than 20 million people out of poverty in less than two decades, according to a statement issued by the bank's Dhaka Office.
At the outset of his programme, Mr Kim will first meet with Finance Minister AMA Muhith Monday morning, followed by a visit to bkash headquarters in the capital to see its activities.
On the same day, he is scheduled to attend the public event to mark End Poverty Day at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also expected to be present.
The WB chief would also take part a panel discussion at the same venue after the public event. He will join a dinner party to be hosted by the Finance Minister on Monday.
On Tuesday, he would visit Barisal to see different WB-funded projects - IDCOL sponsored renewable power projects, solar home systems, Natun Jibon Project and other similar projects.
After coming back from Barisal, he will meet with the WB staff in Dhaka. On the day, he will meet Prime Minister at her official residence Gonobhaban, followed by a press conference at 5:00 pm before his leaving Dhaka.
