Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The BBN has prepared the morning business round up compiling reports, published by different newspapers and news portals in Bangladesh.

Compliance can't be compromised
Compliance cannot be compromised, using lower profit margin as a pretext, in the ongoing efforts to improve working conditions and ensure labour rights in the garment sector, analysts said yesterday. “Compliance can no longer be left on whether you earn profit or not. Compliance is not an issue of bargaining or discussion,” said Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue.

Thrust on doubling exports by 2021
Bangladesh's information technology (IT) output, tea, handloom clothing and services are among some new items to hit the global market under an export policy unveiled Wednesday to chase a shipment target of US$60 billion by 2021.  Officials said 'The Export Policy 2015-2018' is geared toward augmenting export to the US$60-billion level by the golden-jubilee year of country's independence.

Bangladesh opens inter-bank POS through NPSB
Bangladesh has opened inter- bank POS (Point of Sale) transaction through National Switch Payment Bangladesh (NPSB) to facilitate electronic card-based payment. Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country’s central bank, Governor Dr Atiur Rahman formally launched the inter-bank POS at the central bank headquarters in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday. Internet banking and mobile banking activities will also be introduced under the NPSB immediately, officials said.

BASIC BANK SCAM: Parliament asks about Bacchu’s political clout
The parliament secretariat has sought to know the political identity of former chairman of BASIC Bank Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu for his involvement in providing shady loans worth more than Tk 4,500 crore. Officials said the parliament also wanted to know details about the personal life of Bacchu from the banks and financial institution division, early last month. They said the query came after finance minister AMA Muhith told the parliament on June 30 that action against the former BASIC Bank chairman could not be taken because of ruling party politicians.

Iran seeks to export oil to Bangladesh
Iran has shown interest to export petroleum products to Bangladesh's growing market as the western sanction against the country is set to be removed. Iran's Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi conveyed the message to Bangladeshi State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MoPEMR) Nasrul Hamid during a courtesy call at the secretariat on Wednesday.

GSP restoration only after full action plan implementation: Bernicat
US ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat on Wednesday said the US would restore generalised system of preferences for Bangladesh if it fully implements specific measures listed in the GSP Action Plan for it. She made the remark while talking to journalists after visiting two readymade garment units in Gazipur to assess working environment and compliance issues, United News of Bangladesh reports. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association arranged the programme at Utah Fashion Ltd and Epyllion Style Ltd for the diplomats stationed in Dhaka.

Bangladesh’s stocks close higher despite technical glitch
Bangladesh’s stocks ended marginally higher on Wednesday though technical glitch delayed resumption of trading on the country’s premier bourse. Earlier, during the last fourth straight sessions, the country’s capital market was facing downtrend. Trading, that usually takes place between 10:30am and 2:30pm, started at 12:10pm and continued till4:10pm on Wednesday due to the technical glitch. However, trading took place for full four hours.

Draft Telecom Policy goes online for public opinion
To get feedback on draft Telecommunication Policy from public, the Post and Telecommunications Division has decided to post the preliminary version to its website. The draft will be available on the web from today and remain open for next seven days for public opinion. Anyone can send feedback via email to info@ntd.gov.bd. Husnul Mahmud Khan, joint secretary, Post and Telecommunications Division, under the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, yesterday said: “We want to formulate a pro-people telecommunications policy and post the draft for the betterment of masses.”
