Food, Shelter to Rohingyas: $882m needed for 10 months
Centre for Policy Dialogue yesterday said an estimated $882 million or Tk 7,126 crore would be needed to provide food, shelter and other support to the Rohingyas until June next year. It also said the expenditure for each Rohingya over the period would be Tk 59,388. The independent think tank came up with the figures based on the estimate of the UN, which said $434 million would be needed for the Rohingyas in Bangladesh between September and February next year.

Govt moves to boost remittance inflow
An inter-ministerial committee has come up with 18 proposals to boost the remittance inflow through the formal channel and ward off the rising menace of digital hundi. The development comes after the government formed a committee to investigate the shrinking inflow of remittance, a major source of foreign currency for Bangladesh, since fiscal 2015-16.
40pc undocumented
Out of 1,80,000 Bangladeshi workers in Bahrain 72,000 or 40 per cent became undocumented, according to the Labour Market Regulatory Authority of Bahrain. It said Bangladeshi workers took the 1st sloth as Bahrain’s undocumented expatriate workers. LMRA chief executive officer Ausamah A AL Absi shared the information with reporters, lawyers dealing with migrant issues and migrant right activists on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Preparatory Meeting on Global Compact for Migration, in short GCM, for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration at UN ESCAP headquarters in Bangkok Wednesday.
Govt seeks US$1.83b under 39th Japanese ODA package
The government has sought around US$1.83 billion worth of assistance from Japan for bankrolling six development projects, officials said Saturday. Officials at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said they have already discussed the issue with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Bangladesh facilitates bank-led digitization: Atiur
The central bank of Bangladesh has facilitated ‘bank-led digitization drive’, former Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Dr. Atiur Rahman has said. “Be it Mobile Financial Service or be it Agent Banking, the BB has encouraged traditional players (i.e. the commercial banks) to lead the way. And it has been proven to be very successful,” Dr. Rahman said while chairing a session at the ‘5th Biennial Competition, Regulation and Development Conference’ held at Jaipur in India on Friday.
