Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – APL, a leading global container shipping company has pledged to provide cost-free shipping, for an estimated US$ 10 million of medications, supplies, and equipment provided to ICCDDRB by the US-based humanitarian organizations, AmeriCares and MedShare.
“The medical equipment and medical consumables provided by AmeriCares and MedShare and shipped by APL will enable our clinical staff to improve health outcomes for the 3 million patients served annually by the 12 participating hospitals,” said Dr. Alejandro Cravioto, Executive Director of ICDDRB.
The partnership, called a commitment, between, Dhaka-based ICDDRB and AmeriCares and MedShare, was developed at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City, which Dr Alejandro Cravioto attended as a special guest.
As part of the commitment, ICDDRB will manage and operate the distribution of high quality donated medical supplies and equipment to a network of 12 hospitals. The network serves communities in extreme poverty in urban and rural Bangladesh, where millions live without access to adequate healthcare or lifesaving medicines.
The ICDDRB will also undertake to train 7,600 health professionals and other health workers at the 12 hospitals, in an effort to improve quality of patient care and safeguard high clinical standards.
It is a leading training provider and established the first and only formal clinical governance program in Bangladesh at its hospitals, in Dhaka and Matlab.
